Drive SoberHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (8/15/19) — Hopkinsville Police Department reports it has joined other law enforcement agencies across the nation in the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaign Friday-Sept. 2.

The nationwide effort focuses on high-visibility enforcement and high-profile events supported by national paid advertising to curb impaired driving, HPD stated.

Statistics show there were more than 4,700 alcohol-related collisions in Kentucky last year, resulting in 2,400-plus injuries and 87 fatalities. During Labor Day Weekend, there were 63 crashes involving alcohol, with 26 injured.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, on average, there is one alcohol-related fatality every 50 minutes across the U.S. The high-visibility enforcement campaign reduces alcohol-impaired driving by 20 percent, officials listed.
