road stripeCHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (8/18/19) — A contractor for Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans a work zone traffic shift Monday along the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway in northern Christian County.

Starting sometime after the morning commute, two-way traffic will be established along the northbound lanes of the Pennyrile Parkway at Mannington Exit 30 interchange extending southward to near the Kentucky 800 Crofton Exit 23 interchange, KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd reports. Using a crossover to move southbound traffic and establishing bi-directional traffic along about 7 miles of northbound lanes will allow the contractor to start pavement rehabilitation on southbound lanes.

Once this traffic shift is completed, two-way traffic will be running along northbound lanes of this section of the Pennyrile for several months, Todd said. Drivers should be aware that no passing is allowed on the two-lane section of the parkway in this work zone.

The work zone is part a reconstruction project along Pennyrile Parkway that runs from about a mile north of the Kentucky 2642 overpass starting at mile point 16.556, extending northward to near the U.S. 41 ramp overpass at mile point 29.9, a distance of 13.344 miles. Drivers are asked to use appropriate caution along the entire length of this work zone.

The project is divided into about 6 phases spread over about 18 months. Hall Contracting of KY INC. is the prime contractor on this $43.2 million rehab project. Due to some additional work required along the work zone, the target completion date for this project has been extended to June 15, 2020.

The Pennyrile Parkway is designated as a Future I-169 Spur Corridor.
