Hopkinsville Public LibraryHOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (10/2/19) — Hopkinsville-Christian County Public Library invites the community to participate in programs and events at the library this month.

This year’s Big Read book is the Thornton Wilder play Our Town. There will be a limited number of books free to the public available at HCCPL. The library has a month of programming for patrons of all ages and a historical display on the history of the library.

Below is a complete list of programs and events being held at the library for the Big Read:

• Saturday, Oct. 5, 9:00 am to 4 p.m. – Author Festival
This Saturday there will be 23 authors from 6 states featured. Patrons may purchase books and talk with the authors. Teresa Medeiros, local author and nationally celebrated writer, will be speaking at 10:00 a.m. in the HCCPL Community Room.

• Monday, Oct. 7, noon-1 p.m.. – Noon Book Club
Join this once-a-month book club that meets on the first Monday of each month. The October book choice is Our Town by Thornton Wilder. Copies are available to check out upon request.

• Saturday, Oct. 12, 9:30 a.m.-12:30 p.m. - Dialogue Writing Workshop (Big Read) Elizabeth Burton, an English professor from Hopkinsville Community College, returns to the library for a Writing Workshop. This workshop will focus on the art of dialogue writing.

• Saturday, Oct. 19, 2 p.m. - Movie: Shadow of a Doubt
This movie is a 1943 American psychological thriller film noir directed by Alfred Hitchcock and written by Thornton Wilder, Sally Benson, and Alma Reville.

• Wednesday, Oct. 23, 5 p.m. - Our Town and Salem’s Lot Book Discussion: Stephen King was inspired by Our Town's plot and narrative structure when he wrote Salem's Lot. This discussion will focus on the similarities between the two stories.

• Saturday, Oct. 26, 2 p.m. - Movie: Hocus Pocus
This movie is based on a story by Mick Garris and Neil Cuthbert. It follows a villainous, yet comedic, trio of witches, who are inadvertently resurrected by a teenager in Salem, Massachusetts on Halloween.
