UPDATE: CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (10/9/19) — Christian County Sheriff’s Office released more information related to a horse-drawn buggy that was struck by an SUV Tuesday morning along Pembroke Road.

Matthew W. Newton, 28 of Cerulean, was traveling southeast, when his vehicle hit the back of the buggy just before 7 a.m. Newton told deputies he “might have fallen asleep,” and, “when he opened his eyes, the buggy was right in front of him, and was unable to stop in time,” a traffic report lists.

One man in the buggy was taken to Skyline Hospital, reported to have suffered severe injury to both legs, CCSO reported. Occupants injured on the horse-drawn buggy included John King of Dawson Springs, Elam Beyler of Cerulean and Simeon King of Cerulean. Joseph Fisher of Cerulean was unharmed.

The horse was deceased at the scene, CCSO reported. A witness stated he did not see the SUV attempt to stop. Deputies report there were no skid marks at the scene. Newton was not injured.

CHRISTIAN COUNTY, Ky. (10/8/19) — Three people traveling in a horse-drawn carriage were reported injured 6:44 a.m. today along the 3000 block of Pembroke Road.

Christian County Sheriff’s Office reported a sport-utility vehicle struck a horse and buggy. Both were traveling southeast on Pembroke Road in the right lane.

The horse was killed at the scene, while three of the four individuals riding in the carriage were injured. One individual was taken to Skyline Medical Center and two others to Jennie Stuart. The SUV driver was not injured.

The names of the victims are currently unknown.
