maroons helmetMADISONVILLE, Ky. (11/8/17) — Madisonville-North Hopkins is preparing to visit Franklin-Simpson for the second round of the Class 4A Russell Athletic/KHSAA Commonwealth Gridiron Bowl on Friday night. 

The Maroons moved to 7-4 after defeating Allen County-Scottsville 28-7 in the opening round of the Class 4A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3. During the regular-season, Madisonville-North Hopkins notched wins over Marshall County, Murray, Hopkins County Central, Calloway County, Hopkinsvile and Fort Campbell while dropping games to Owensboro, Union County, Logan County and Christian County.

Through 11 games, Madisonville-North Hopkins has rushed for 3,394 yards. Jariah Hightower leads the Maroons in rushing. Hightower has rushed 230 times for 1,523 yards and 15 touchdowns. Second in rushing behind Hightower for the Maroons and nearing a personal , Aaron Miller has rushed 109 times for 958 yards and 12 touchdowns.

Through the air, Madisonville-North Hopkins quarterback Hayden Reynolds has completed 44-of-93 passes for 640 yards and nine touchdowns. Reynolds has thrown four interceptions.

Defensively for the Maroons, Krey Cunningham has recorded 63 tackles and Malik Parker 61 tackles.
James Gilbert paces the Madisonville-North Hopkins secondary. Gilbert has registered five interceptions for the Maroons.

Franklin-Simpson captured the Class 4A, District 2 title during the regular-season and then handled Hopkins County Central 43-6 in the opening round of the Class 4A State Playoffs on Friday, Nov. 3.

Prior to the first round of the playoffs, Franklin-Simpson had rushed for 3,485 yards. Through 10 regular-season games, Tre Bass had rushed for 1,005 yards and Carlos McKinney 935 yards for the Wildcats.

Defensively for Franklin-Simpson, James Baker recorded 66 tackles for the Wildcats during the regular-season.

The Maroons and Wildcats did not meet during the 2016 season.

Kickoff for the Madisonville-North Hopkins-Franklin-Simpson football game is set for 7:30 p.m..
