Owensboro Catholic logo 325OWENSBORO, Ky. (12/4/17) — Owensboro Catholic suffered its first loss in the 2017-18 girls' high school basketball season over the weekend as visiting Elizabethtown pulled away to win 58-44 in the Independence Bank Classic on Saturday.

With the loss, Owensboro Catholic dropped to 1-2.

Elizabethtown moved to 2-0 with the win.

Limited offensively, Owensboro Catholic shot only 25.9 percent (15-of-58) from the field. The Lady Aces were just 2-of-15 (13.3 percent) from 3-point range but shot 60 percent (12-of-20) at the free throw line.

Elle Mitchell led Owensboro Catholic with 12 points. Accompanying Mitchell in double figures for the Lady Aces, Sarah Clemens netted 10 points.

In the other games played in the Independence Bank Classic it was South Warren 79, Murray 73; Grayson County 35, McCracken County 34 and Bullitt East 58, Graves County 49.

Prior to slipping into the loss column on Saturday, Owensboro Catholic knocked off Meade County 73-62 on Friday night. More on the Owensboro Catholic-Meade County girls' basketball game follows. 

Owensboro Catholic 73, Meade County 62: MacKenzie Keelin scored 23 points and pulled down 11 rebounds to lead Owensboro Catholic past host Meade County 73-62 in an early-season girls' high school basketball game on Friday night. 

Four Owensboro Catholic players reached double figures in the scoring column as Ellie Mitchell posted 15 points, Hannah McKay netted 11 points and Sarah Clemens contributed 10 points. 

Owensboro Catholic shot 59.5 percent (25-of-42) from the field. The Lady Aces were 3-of-7 (42.9 percent) from 3-point range. 

Owensboro Catholic shot 66.7 percent (20-of-30) from the free throw line.
