Apollo High School EaglesOWENSBORO, Ky. (3/1/18) — Apollo pulled away to defeat Meade County 76-59 in the quarterfinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Wednesday night.

With the win, Apollo improved to 14-15 and advanced to the semifinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Meade County ended its season 16-10 with the loss.

Hayden Shelton scored a game-high 23 points to lead Apollo to the win. Apollo featured three scorers in double figure as Nathan Boyle tossed in 19 points and James Graham added 16 points.

Apollo packed a lead out of each quarter. The Eagles outscored Meade County 15-12 in the opening period. Then, Apollo used a 16-4 scoring advantage in the second quarter to lead 31-16 at halftime.

Matt Collard and Dawson Gagel paced Meade County with 13 points apiece. Accompanying Collard and Gagel in double figures for the Green Wave, Chezney Weick scored 10 points.

Apollo will take on Ohio County in the semifinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
