Owensboro Catholic logo 325OWENSBORO, Ky. (3/2/18) — Owensboro Catholic shook off a slow start to beat Breckinridge County 64-54 in the quarterfinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at the Owensboro Sportscenter on Thursday night.

With the win, Owensboro Catholic improved to 22-9 and advances to the semifinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament.

Breckinridge County ended its season 15-13 with the loss.

Thriving early, Breckinridge County edged Owensboro Catholic 11-10 in the opening quarter. However, the Aces fared better after the initial frame. Owensboro Catholic outscored Breckinridge County 15-6 in the second quarter to lead 25-17 at halftime.

The Aces led 38-34 at the conclusion of the third quarter.

JD Marshall scored 17 points and Bailey Ballard added 16 points for Owensboro Catholic in the victory. Marshall helped Owensboro Catholic to pull away to win, scoring 11 points in the fourth quarter. 

Kobe Poole paced Breckinridge County with 17 points. Accompanying Poole in double figures for the Fighting Tigers, Tanner Whitworth added 12 points.

Owensboro Catholic will face Muhlenberg County in the semifinals of the Third Region Boys' Basketball Tournament at 8:15 p.m. on Saturday.
