Owensboro Catholic logoHIGHLAND HEIGHTS, Ky. (3/7/18) — Owensboro Catholic passed its first test in the Girls' Sweet 16, defeating 15th Region champion Johnson Central 56-46 at Northern Kentucky University's BB&T Arena today.

With the win, Owensboro Catholic improved to 27-7 and advances in the state tournament.

Johnson Central ended its season 20-13.

Third Region title winner Owensboro Catholic recovered from a slow start after Johnson Central led 14-8 at the conclusion of the first quarter. The Lady Aces dominated in the second quarter to lead 28-19 at halftime. Remaining in control after the break, Owensboro Catholic led 42-28 at the end of the third period.

Hannah McKay paced Owensboro Catholic with a game-high 23 points and 10 rebounds, registering a double-double. McKay was the only Owensboro Catholic player to reach double figures in the scoring column.

Mackenzie Keelin added eight points for Owensboro Catholic, which shot 80 percent (16-of-20) from the free throw line.

Kelci Blair led Johnson Central with 11 points. Blair was the only Johnson Central player to reach double figures in the scoring column. Narrowly missing double figures for the Lady Eagles, Ashlee Belcher scored nine points.

Johnson Central was 11-of-18 from the free throw line in the season-ending loss.
