MNHHS Softball State ChampMADISONVILLE, Ky. (3/13/18) — Reigning state champion Madisonville-North Hopkins is preparing to take the field for its 2018 season opener. The Lady Maroons are slated to host Henderson County for a season opener on Thursday, March 22.

First-year head coach Whitney Barber is poised to guide the Lady Maroons. Barber took over for former head coach Shannon Peyton during the offseason.

Madisonville-North Hopkins defeated Male 5-3 to win in the 2017 state title. The Lady Maroons concluded the 2017 season 38-6.

Henderson County, following a loss to Union County in the opening round of the 6th District Softball Tournament, ended the 2017 season 7-15. The Lady Colonels are under the direction of head coach Jimmy Collins and due to host Hopkins County Central in their season opener on Tuesday, May 20.

Madisonville-North Hopkins rolled past Henderson County 17-0 in three innings in the two Second Region softball teams' lone meeting in 2017.

The Lady Maroons' regular-season schedule includes additional games versus Lyon County, Apollo, Hopkins County Central, Woodford County, Union County, Muhlenberg County, Logan County, Central Hardin, Dawson Springs, Daviess County, Christian County, Marshall County, Owensboro Catholic, Butler and Male. Newfound rivals, Madisonville-North Hopkins and Male are scheduled to meet in a rematch of last season's state title game in Louisville on May 19.

Madisonville-North Hopkins is ranked fifth in the Kentucky Prep Softball Preseason Top 25.
