MORGANFIELD, Ky. (4/13/18) — Reigning state champion Madisonville-North Hopkins shut out host Union County 17-0 in four innings in a high school softball game on Thursday.
Longtime Second Region rivals, Madisonville-North Hopkins and Union County hail from neighboring districts.
With the win, Madisonville-North Hopkins moved to 3-0.
Union County dropped to 5-6 with the loss.
Acacia Gray led the Madisonville-North Hopkins offensive effort with four hits. Gray drilled three doubles for the Lady Maroons. Multiple Madisonville-North Hopkins players contributed at the plate as Bailey Woodard drilled a 3-run home run and Courtney Patterson added three hits.
Patterson earned the pitching win. She surrendered zero runs on zero hits over three innings, striking out three and walking zero.
Jralee Roberson was the starting pitching for homestanding Union County. Roberson surrendered 17 runs on 16 hits over four innings, striking out one.
