hoptown hoppers 300HOPKINSVILLE, Ky. (7/20/18) — Host Hoptown held on to win in the opening game of the Ohio Valley League playoffs on Friday night, defeating Madisonville 4-1.

Hoptown pitcher Brian Coffey earned the win. Coffey surrendered zero runs on six hits over seven and a third innings, striking out six. Hassan Westbrook and Trey Fields entered the game out of the bullpen for the Hoppers. Westbrook recorded the last three outs to notch the save.

Madisonville pitcher Zack Lightsey took the loss. Lightsey surrendered four runs on five hits over seven innings, striking out 10.

Cole Cummings smacked a home run for the Hoppers. Nick Proto led Hoptown at the plate, delivering two hits in four at-bats.

Sean Kearney went 2-for-5 at the plate to lead Madisonville in the hits column.

The Miners lost despite outhitting the Hoppers 6-5.

Each OVL team committed one error.
