Kentucky WesleyanOWENSBORO, Ky. (8/6/18) — Kentucky Wesleyan College wrestling head coach Chris Freije has announced the commitments to the first class in program history. Wesleyan announced the addition of wrestling as a varsity sport in October. The first class consists of 21 student-athletes from nine different states with bulk coming from the home state of Kentucky.

"We really tried to recruit a balanced class in terms of age and experience, and felt like we hit the mark in that regard," said Freije. "The goal is to win at the highest level as soon as we can and do it the right way. For our program, and the goals we have set, it is a four-pronged approach. For us that means finding individuals who have passion for what they're doing, have strong character, high academics, and a big work ethic in all areas of life. We've still got a couple irons in the fire and are working to add a piece or two to the puzzle before the school year starts. Looking at the group we have coming in this year, if we can consistently replicate that, and bring in student-athletes with those qualities we will attain the goals we have set soon."

The recruiting class is made up of the followig players: Adam Bender (Lexington, Ky./Woodford County), Andrew Parker (Clarksville, Tenn./West Creek), Austin Gibson (Hopkinsville, Ky./Christian County), Chris Godsey (Bedford, Ind./Bedford North Lawrence), Daniel Lopez (Dalton, GA/Coahulla Creek), Diion Leavell (Hopkinsville, Ky./Christian County), Jacob Kirkman (Owensboro, Ky./Owensboro), James Loi (Dalton, Ga/Coahulla Creek), Kairus Washington (Louisville, Ky./Dixie Heights), Kohana Wilks (New Salisbury, Ind./North Harrison), Matthew Quiggins (Louisville, Ky./Fern Creek), Ricky Simpson (Mount Vernon, Ind./Mount Vernon), Silas Goff (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike Central), Terence Brown (New Albany, Ind./New Albany), Zach Hutchins (Owensboro, Ky./Owensboro), Andrew Ramirez (Lakewood, Wash./Highline College/Southern Oregon University), Andy Santana (Bensenville Ill./Triton College), Angelo Talabert (Orlando Fla./Truman State University), Caleb Craig (Evansville, Ind./Reitz/University of Evansville), LaMont Wilson (St. Louis Mo./Iowa Lakes Community College), Nick Ornelas (Neosho Kan./Neosho County Community College).
