Baseball ballOWENSBORO, Ky. (8/9/18) — Brescia University Director of Athletics Brian Skortz has named Jonathan Herbig as the college's new baseball head coach. Herbig has coached at the SHO-ME Baseball Camp in Branson, Mo. since 2007. He has also coached at the college level at Central Christian College and the University of Rio Grande, where he was a hitting coach. Herbig's college baseball career brought him to Spring Arbor University in Michigan. He was part of two teams that made it to the NAIA World Series. In 2007, Spring Arbor finished as the NAIA National Runner-up in a season that also included a memorable 36-game win streak. In 2008, Herbig was part of a Spring Arbor team that finished third at the NAIA National Tournament. Herbig was awarded with NAIA All-Tournament Team honors.

"We are excited to add Coach Herbig to the athletic department," said Skortz. "He has been at some different programs that have had a high level of success. As a player he has accomplished a lot in his career and had a legendary coach mentor him. We are looking for great things out of Coach Herbig as he builds our program into one of the best baseball programs in the River States Conference."

"I am beyond thrilled to receive this tremendous opportunity to lead the Brescia University baseball program," said Herbig. "I am deeply grateful to Brian Skortz and the rest of the administration at Brescia for providing me this incredible opportunity. What excites me most are the prospects of the current roster having so much potential just waiting for us to tap into. I'm looking forward to the work these young men and our coaching staff will be putting forward to establish a lasting tradition of high achievement. We will make our mark through professionalism, high character, and servant leadership. I can't wait to see our guys respond to the challenges ahead."
