Baseball on fieldLEXINGTON, Ky. (6/9/18) — Tates Creek is back on top in Kentucky high school baseball. Playing close to home, Tates Creek doubled up McCracken County 4-2 in the Whitaker Bank/KHSAA State Baseball Tournament title game at Whitaker Bank Ballpark on Sunday.

Eli Tencza worked a complete game and pitched Tates Creek to the victory. Tencza allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four as he claimed the pitching win.

McCracken County pitcher Jacob Ehling took the pitching loss. Ehling pitched four and a third innings, allowing six hits and four runs while striking out three.

The Commodores edged the Mustangs 8-7 in the hits column. 

Noah Blythe went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Tates Creek (35-7) in the hits column.

Defensively, Tates Creek, which defeated 3rd Region champion Breckinridge County 5-1 in the semifinals of the state tournament on Saturday, committed the game's only error. 

Logan Verble and Reese Hutchins paced 1st Region champion McCracken County (33-8) with two hits apiece.
