Owensboro Seal 01 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (12/14/16) — The City of Owensboro has been ranked number 85 in the Milken Institute’s 2016 Best Performing Small Cities.

According to the City of Owensboro, the 2016 Milken Institute Best-Performing Cities Index ranks U.S. metropolitan areas by how well they are creating and sustaining jobs and economic growth. The components include job, wage and salary and technology growth. In most years, these give a good indication of the underlying structural performance of regional economics. This year, the Milken Institute ranked 201 small cities.

When breaking down Owensboro's ranking, the Milken Institute ranked the city at number  86 out of 201 small cities in five year job growth. Owensboro was ranked at number 99 in one year job growth and ranked at number 50 in five year wages/salaries growth.

In 2015, Owensboro was ranked number 110 in the Best Performing Small Cities. 

Bowling Green, Kentucky, was ranked number 66 and Elizabethtown-Ft. Knox, Kentucky, was ranked number 79 in the small cities rankings. Out of 200 large cities ranked by the Milken Institute, Louisville, Kentucky, was ranked number 57 and Lexington, Kentucky, was ranked number 95.
