MLES Miss Ky Outstanding Teen Abigail QuammenDAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (11/28/17) — Meadow Lands Elementary School will host the 2017 Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen from 9 to 11 a.m. Friday, Dec. 8.
 
Abigail Quammen will talk to students about her platform of “Read to Succeed” and share information about the Bluegrass Book Buddies program.
 
“It is so important to continually impress upon our students the fact that reading impacts everything you do in life. Reading can be so exciting,” said MLES Principal Kevin Lowe. “This is a great opportunity to remind kids of the places reading can take you, regardless of whatever your situation in life might be.”
 
Abigail Quammen of Frankfort was crowned Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen on May 28. She lives in Frankfort and attends Lexington Christian Academy.  As part of the pageant competition, she performed a vocal rendition of “Astonishing” from the Broadway musical “Little Women” and received a Preliminary Talent Award.  Her future ambition is to study law and become a lawyer specializing in the entertainment industry.
 
Abigail will represent Kentucky at the Miss America’s Outstanding Teen Pageant in Orlando in July 2018.
 
MKYOT has partnered with Fund for the Arts to create more opportunity for the students of Kentucky through the arts. Abigail, as well as future MKYOT winners, serves as an arts ambassador, promoting this program throughout Kentucky.  
 
The Bluegrass Book Buddies program was developed by Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jenean Hampton. This initiative invites all residents of Kentucky to explore reading through meaningful community and shared experiences. This video features Lt. Gov.
