fatal collision 2 300MACEO, Ky. (12/15/17) — A 38-year-old Hardinsburg man is dead after police say his vehicle struck a tractor trailer on U.S. 60 shortly after 5 p.m. Thursday.

Kentucky State Police were notified of the two-vehicle collision near the Kentucky 334/2830 intersection and investigated. KSP said the preliminary investigation revealed Donald J. Gibson was headed east on U.S. 60 in a 2005 Chevrolet pickup truck while Eric D. Norton, 50 of Tullahoma, Tennessee was headed west on U.S. 60 in a 2003 Kenworth tractor-trailer, which he operates for JR Express.

Police said Gibson crossed the centerline and struck Norton’s truck. Both vehicles caught fire and mostly burned up.

Norton was transported by Yellow Ambulance to Owensboro Regional Hospital and remains in critical condition as of this morning. Gibson was pronounced dead at the scene by the Daviess County Coroner’s Office.

U.S. 60 was shut down for more than four hours while the KSP collision reconstructionist investigated and tow trucks cleared the road.

Yelvington and Maceo volunteer fire departments and the Kentucky Department of Transportation also assisted. The investigation is continuing.
