DCPS Transportation Director Downey WardOWENSBORO, Ky. (1/12/18) — Downey Ward has accepted the position of director of transportation for the Daviess County Public Schools district. He will assume his responsibilities on Tuesday, Jan. 16, replacing Wayne Wright, who retired on Dec. 21.

Ward previously served as sanitation manager for the City of Owensboro, managing the daily efforts of 26 department personnel and overseeing an annual budget of approximately $7 million. Before joining the City of Owensboro, Ward retired as a Lieutenant Commander with the U.S. Navy, serving on active duty from 1982 to 2002.

Ward’s various responsibilities for the City of Owensboro centered around supervising safe, reliable, effective and cost-efficient management of a fleet serving more than 23,000 households and businesses.

“I am enthusiastic to be afforded this opportunity to become part of a profession that is both necessary to the community and personally rewarding,” Ward said. “Striving to ensure the safe, timely and efficient transportation of Daviess County’s younger generation is of the utmost importance and a most honorable endeavor.”
