(1/18/19) — Owensboro Police Department has charged two men with three counts of murder and one count of first-degree assault in relation to the triple homicide investigation that began Friday after police found the victims suffering from gunshot wounds at a Audubon Avenue residence.

OPD charged Arnett B. Baines, 30 and Cylar L. Shemwell, 31, both of Owensboro with murder and assault in the deaths of Jay Michael Sowders, 43, Robert D. Smith Jr., 35, and Christopher Carie, 18.

Carmen R. Vanegas, 35, was also shot and is being treated as a patient at Owensboro Health Regional Hospital.

UPDATE: OWENSBORO, Ky. (1/17/19) — Owensboro Police detectives are attempting to locate two men they want to speak with in relation to the triple-homicide investigation underway in Owensboro.

OPD Officer Andrew Boggess said three men and a woman suffered gunshot wounds earlier in the day. Two men were found dead at an Audubon Avenue residence when police went to the home to do a welfare check. Another man and a woman were transported to the hospital, where the man later died.

OPD is looking for 31-year-old Cylar L. Shemwell of Owensboro because they believe he might have information that might assist in the investigation.

Anyone with information about Shemwell's whereabouts is asked to call OPD.

OPD also released another photo of an unidentified man they want to talk to in connection with the case. If anyone has information on his identity and whereabouts, they are asked to call (270) 687-8888.

OWENSBORO, Ky. (1/17/19) — Owensboro Police Department is investigating three possible homicides today.

OPD Public Information Officer Andrew Boggess said officers responded to the 900 block of Audubon Avenue to find two people dead and two others injured. The two injured people were transported to Owensboro Health Regional Hospital, where one of the people succumbed to their injuries.

Detectives remain on the scene collecting evidence and continuing their investigation.
