Daviess County Public Schools logoDAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (9/12/19) — Daviess County Public Schools will host free college information sessions from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, at Daviess County High School and from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18, at Apollo High School for members of the Class of 2020 and their families. Both the “County to College” and “Eagle Expo” events will include an open-house style informational expo, college fair and food provided by DCPS Family Resource Centers.

The program will feature information about applying to college, completing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid), scholarships, submitting transcripts and registering for the ACT assessment.

Owensboro Community and Technical College, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Brescia University, Western Kentucky University, the University of Kentucky, the University of Louisville, Murray State University, Eastern Kentucky University, the University of Southern Indiana, the U.S. Army, and the National Guard (along with many more) will have tables set up at the schools starting at 5:30 p.m. both evenings. Representatives will be available to provide information about their programs and to answer questions about opportunities available to students after high school.

Those in attendance will also be eligible for door prizes, with drawings taking place throughout both evenings for prizes that will include including dorm-size refrigerators and microwaves donated by the Youth Services Centers and the DCPS College and Career Readiness department.

“We are excited to celebrate the beginning of senior year with the Class of 2020 and their families, but it is also important to realize how quickly this year will go by,” said DCHS guidance counselor Kelly Powers. “This event is part of our ongoing commitment to preparing students to succeed beyond graduation. We are looking forward to providing important information and resources to help students and families with the college application and financial aid process.”

Kelly Spaw, CCR coach at Apollo, agrees with Powers, “Apollo is excited to host our first college fair of the year that parents can attend with their student.”
