octcs building 300OWENSBORO, Ky. (10/30/19) — Brescia University and Owensboro Community and Technical College announced a new transfer agreement that will impact students in all OCTC technical program offerings.

The announcement was made today at OCTC's Main Campus, 4800 New Hartford Road. Presidents, Fr. Larry Hostetter of Brescia University and Dr. Scott Williams of OCTC were present as the agreement became effective immediately.

Brescia University and OCTC have two longstanding articulation agreements regarding the associate of arts and associate of science degrees. Brescia University accepts the AA or AS degree from OCTC, and from any of the sixteen colleges that make up the Kentucky Community & Technical College System (KCTCS). Those degrees transfer with 60 to 67 credits and allow the transfer student a junior class standing at Brescia. Historically, more than 150 students have transferred to Brescia from OCTC since 2009, college officials reported.

The new articulation agreement opens this opportunity to all students in OCTC technical programs that offer the associate in applied science degree. Students will be able to transfer up to 77 credit hours to Brescia towards a bachelor's degree in Integrated Studies. Brescia University has created a personalized degree option for students as they continue their higher education journey. This new agreement expands the opportunity for transfer for students in 23 additional OCTC programs including: Business Administration Systems, Computer & Information Technologies, Engineering & Electronics Technology, and numerous Allied Health programs.

Williams said, "We have a longstanding partnership with Brescia and are always looking for additional ways we can collaborate to benefit students and our community."

"Strengthening our collaboration with OCTC is an exciting and essential next step that will have a lasting impact on our community and surrounding areas. By streamlining the transfer process for students with any AA/AS/AAS degree from OCTC, we are ensuring that their graduates can join the Brescia University family and have access to a path towards a 4-year degree. BUconnections, the new Brescia University transfer initiative, is about more than transferring academic credit, it is also about creating a holistic experience for the student with individualized attention in areas like advising, tutoring, and career services to support their path to success," Brecia University chief of staff Dr. Lauren McCrary said.

"We are so pleased that our academic departments worked together to offer this opportunity for so many additional students. Many times our students are place bound by families and careers so offering them an affordable way to continue their education is extremely exciting" said Dr. Veena Sallan, OCTC's Chief Academic Officer.

The Kentucky Community and Technical College System is the Commonwealth's largest postsecondary institution with 16 colleges and more than 70 campuses. We also are Kentucky's largest provider of workforce training and online education. Through partnerships with business and industry, we align our programs to meet the needs of local employers. We help students fulfill their dreams of creating a better life through programs that lead directly to jobs or help them transfer to one of our four-year partners.
