dcps3 300DAVIESS COUNTY, Ky. (11/7/19) — Daviess County High School Academic Team is hosting a DCPS Elementary School Quick Recall Tournament 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 23. This is the first year of a competition that is planned as an annual event.

Students representing Burns, Deer Park, East View, Highland, Southern Oaks, Tamarack and West Louisville elementary schools will compete in a Quick Recall contest, answering questions from the fields of mathematics, science, social studies, language arts, and arts and humanities.

“This is an opportunity for our elementary students to compete in quick recall outside of Governor’s Cup,” said Steve Easley, who serves as assistant coach of the DCHS Academic Team. “Many of our students practice for several months to compete at just one competition, or perhaps two at the most. While practice and learning are fun, the excitement of competing is what usually hooks students, so we wanted to offer this opportunity for an additional competition experience.”

Participation in team events helps to nurture skills and values such as confidence, teamwork and leadership, and Easley said the elementary-level event is also designed to encourage students to continue their interest in academics at the secondary levels.

“The more students compete and participate at the elementary level, the more likely they are to want to continue as members of an academic team once they get to middle and high school,” he said.

Quick Recall is a fast-paced, action-packed competition in which teams of students try to beat the clock (and one another!) in responding to questions presented by an event moderator.
