Chase 12 27 HCJHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (12/27/17) — An Earlington driver led a sea of blue lights overnight during a police chase that spanned nearly into three counties.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Spokesman Major Will Coursey said law enforcement officers from several agencies worked together to stop the vehicle believed to be occupied by individuals involved in several area thefts lately.

Officers from Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office, Madisonville Police Department, Dawson Springs Police Department, Kentucky State Police and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Office were all in on the action to stop the pickup truck.

Three suspects were apprehended in a field off Kentucky 70 near Beulah after the chase just before 11 p.m. Tuesday. Authorities pursued the vehicle begining on Kentucky 70 that continued to the Caldwell County line, back into Hopkins, and then north nearly into Webster County. No one was reported injured.

“MPD deployed spike strips on Highway 70 just outside their city limits,” Coursey said. "They (the suspects) ran into a field and couldn’t get across the drainage ditch.”

Coursey said the officers did a “great job” in getting the suspects stopped and into custody.

The guys have been trying to catch the suspects for some time, Coursey said, adding that Caldwell County has also reported experiencing thefts in that area.

The driver, Michael Lear, 33, was charged with first-degree wanton endangerment (police officer), receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more), first-degree criminal mischief, possession of marijuana, resisting arrest, third-degree possession of a controlled substance, driving on a suspended license and other charges.

A passenger in the truck, Jacob Dewayne Lear, 27 of Earlington, was charged with second-degree fleeing police on foot, receiving stolen property ($10,000 or more), resisting arrest, trafficking in a controlled substance (meth), possession of drug paraphernalia and failure to appear.

A third man, 34-year-old William Coby Howton of White Plains was charged with theft by deception.

Michael Lear was listed as being held in Hopkins County Jail this morning on $3,000 cash bond, while Jacob Lear was being held on $2,500 cash bond. Bail was not yet listed for Howton.
