Nevels 10 31HENDERSON, Ky. (10/31/17) — Henderson Police Department celebrated the retirement of Lt. John Nevels today at the station.

Nevels began his career at HPD June 8, 1989, Public Information Officer Jennifer Richmond said. Nevels served as a patrolman and detective prior to being promoted in 1998. He became a first and second shift sergeant, sergeant of investigations, and then promoted to lieutenant in 2013.

Nevels has been in charge of the innvestigations division since November 2013.

"We will miss him and all of the valuable knowledge that he has shared throughout the years," Richmond said in a statement.

Prior to joining HPD, Nevels served as a U.S. Army Calvary Scout for more than 4 years.

Officers refer to Nevels as their very own Cold War hero. A potluck luncheon was held in his honor.
