high speed chase 300 blueHENDERSON, Ky. (11/12/17) — Henderson County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 6000 block of Kentucky 1299 this morning to a report of a man waiving and pointing a gun at people.

HCSO said the man, later identified as Thomas Murphy, 24 of Reed, reportedly left the area in a black Lincoln prior to their arrival to the scene. Deputies located the Lincoln on Kentucky 1299 near its intersection with Kentucky 425 and attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle.

Police said Murphy refused to stop and fled onto Kentucky 425 toward I-69 South reaching speeds of up to 110 MPH. The pursuit continued at a high rate of speed down I-69 into Webster County. It ended near the intersection of Jefferson and College streets in Sebree, where Murphy wrecked.

Murphy was treated at the scene by Webster County EMS for injuries and transported St. Vincent Hospital in Evansville, Indiana by Air Evac medical helicopter, however, his injuries appeared to be non-life threatening, said HCSO. A passenger in the vehicle, 23-year-old Emily Wells of California was treated on the scene by Webster EMS and then transported to Methodist Hospital in Henderson.

The approximate 17-mile-long pursuit spanned approximately 20 minutes, authorities said.

Police said Murphy was in possession of a handgun and drug paraphernalia and will be seeking charges against him.
