santaHENDERSON, Ky. (11/27/17) — The 32nd-Annual Christmas in the Park celebration in downtown Henderson’s Historic Central Park will officially open with the tree lighting ceremony 6 p.m. Friday.

There are more than 15,000 lights in the display and the popular cutouts will be back in place for December, city officials announced.

The festivities will include the lighting of the 67-foot Christmas tree by decree of Henderson Mayor Steve Austin and Christmas music by the Henderson County High School Band.

Christmas in the Park is presented by the city of Henderson in partnership with the Henderson Breakfast Lions Club. It features more than 30 displays, many of which are interactive.

Popular displays include the Santa Express train, Santa’s Sled, the North Pole Fire Truck, the Castle and the Holiday School Bus. There is also a mailbox for children to use to send their letters to Santa Claus.

Central Park is adjacent to the Henderson County Courthouse in downtown Henderson. The park has ample on-street parking. The park terrain is flat making it friendly for strollers and wheelchairs.

The Henderson Merchant Christmas Parade downtown begins 10 a.m. Saturday. After the parade, Santa will visit with children in Santa’s House at  Christmas in the Park. There is no cost for these events. Those attending are encouraged to bring their cameras to take pictures with Santa.

Santa will return to his house for visits 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. each Saturday including Dec. 9 and Dec. 16, and 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Sundays: Dec. 3, Dec. 10 and Dec. 17.
