HENDERSON, Ky. (12/3/17) — For the hundreds of children and "kids-at-heart" that lined downtown Henderson streets Saturday, the Henderson Merchants’ Annual Invitational Christmas Parade brought the same festive spirit it always does.

The Henderson parade was said to be the “best in years” by some paradegoers. People were lined up on both sides of the street as the parade came down Main Street underneath the American Flag hanging high in the sky (hung by Tri-State Towing’s rotator wreckers) and then looped around downtown.

The crowd cheered for high school marching bands, vintage cars and tractors, dance troupes, floats advertising merchants in addition to pageant queens and kings. The streets were lined with shiny, red fire trucks and several cartoon characters including Big Bird, Elmo, Barney and the Grinch.

“It was everything I expected, a lot of participation, very organized,” Alesha Hicks of Henderson said afterward. “It was great, and I’ll be back next year.”

“The turnout appeared strong, buoyed in part by the weather.” says Ethan Evans, one of the parade organizers. “The weather was perfect this year, and this was the longest parade we’ve ever had. We had approximately 120 entries with about 26 of those being floats.”

Cairo Elementary School walked away with the "Best Float" award.

The Parade was sponsored by the Henderson Shrine Club, which is supported through donations by the city of Henderson and county merchants.
