presc pills1 300HENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (12/4/17) — Henderson County Sheriff’s Office has launched a Kentucky Opioid Disposal Program in Henderson County.

Initiated by Attorney General Andy Beshear, the four-county program involves three Henderson County organizations that will distribute drug deactivation pouches to allow residents to dispose of unused prescription opioids in an “eco-friendly manner,” HCSO reported.

Sheriff Ed Brady, in conjunction with Beshear and community partners Henderson Police Department and St. Anthony’s Hospice, anticipate to provide 10,000 drug deactivation pouches for more than 45,000 prescription pills.

The Deterra pouches can be picked up at the three county participating agencies, Brady said in a press release.

“Any person or family who has unwanted or unneeded prescription drugs may now safely and easily dispose of the drugs,” Brady noted.

Beshear will be in Henderson Dec. 15 to check on the initiative, the sheriff said.
