Bradley 4 12

HENDERSON, Ky. (4/12/18) — A fundraiser concert to develop college scholarships for Henderson County students is coming to South Middle School. Bluegrass music songstress Dale Ann Bradley, who will be inducted into the Kentucky Music Hall of Fame this year, will be performing in concert 6:30p.m. Saturday, April 21.

Bradley began her recording career in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, where she got a contract to perform at the famous Renfro Valley Entertainment Center. Growing up in the rural southeastern part of the state, Bradley absorbed the various musical cultures that were influences on bluegrass. She was given a cheap guitar and started playing and singing at age 14. By the time she reached high school she was in her first band, Backporch Grass. Up to this point, she had lived in a coal mining region in the southeast part of the state, with no running water or reliable electricity to her family home.

Bradley is a five-time International Bluegrass Association Female Vocalist of the Year, winning in 2007-09, 2011-12. Her 2015 album, “Pocket Full of Keys,” was nominated for a Grammy Award.

The Kentucky Music Hall of Fame and Museum in Mount Vernon has announced that Bradley will be inducted into the Hall of Fame as part of its 2018 class. The official induction ceremony is May 11 at the Center for Rural Development in Somerset.

The South Middle School concert will begin 6:30 p.m. April 21 in the auditorium. Henderson Mayor Steve Austin will make introductory remarks. The emcee will be Henderson humorist and storyteller Bob Park.

Southern Gospel performer Clinton Spaulding will open the musical segment following a performance by Bradley.

Tickets are $20 and are available by calling 270-748-0840.

The event is sponsored by the Henderson Democratic Women’s Club.
