memorial day 1 2017HENDERSON, Ky. (5/14/18) — In observance of Memorial Day, officials of Fernwood and Fairmont Cemeteries are allowing placement of flowers on burial spaces beginning Friday, May 25. They may remain until Sunday, June 3, city officials reported.

Flowers and other items left on the ground after Monday, June 4, (including solar lights or items that interfere or restrict cemetery mowing and maintenance) will be removed, city officials said.

Flower arrangements that are mounted on markers, monuments or in hanging baskets may remain year-round, as long as they do not interfere with the maintenance of the cemetery or cause any type of danger to visitors, cemetery workers or equipment.

Cemetery officials would like to remind cemetery patrons that glass, ceramic or breakable items are not allowed in the cemetery at any time.

In Central Park, the American Legion Post 40 has again staged the veterans cross display, as it has done since 1947. Remembrances that have been placed should be picked up by the Monday following Memorial Day (June 4). This assists with the removal of the crosses by making it easier and safer for volunteers assisting with storing the crosses.
