body camHENDERSON, Ky. (5/23/18) — The city of Henderson Board of Commissioners finalized the financing that will allow the purchase of 50 body-worn cameras and 40 in-car cameras to be used by Henderson Police Department at a meeting held Tuesday.

The $429,000 project to add this equipment at HPD has been under study for several months, city officials reported. The amount of the contract is to be paid over a five-year period.

The board also conducted a public hearing on the use of street funds in the next fiscal year from Municipal Aid ($568,000) and Local Government Economic Assistance ($17,000). The City has 31 paving projects and minor street, shoulder and sidewalk repairs totaling $850,000 in the budget for fiscal year 2019.

In presentations at the meeting, the board heard the quarterly report from Henderson County Humane Society Executive Director Angie Hagedorn, heard about the new Online Community Resource Guide from Henderson Leadership Initiative Fellow Trisha Wright and heard a Fireworks Ordinance Review from Major Briscoe Edwards.

In other business, the board:

• Heard first readings on ordinances allowing beekeeping and setting fines for violations.

• Heard a first reading adding language about the transient room tax to the Code since the Henderson County Tourist Commission will become a shared agency with the county on July 1.

• Passed a resolution establishing a cost of living adjustment for members of the Board of Commissioners. The board is allowed by Kentucky Department of Local Government to take up to 2.1 percent COLA.

• Passed a resolution authorizing an agreement with the Transportation Alternatives Program for the Green River Road sidewalk project. The Kentucky Transportation has approved $70,000 for the design phase of the project that extends the sidewalk along Green River Road from Osage Drive to Bend Gate Road to provide children a safe and appealing means of walking and/or bicycling to school.
Passed a resolution approving the Municipal Aid Cooperative Program agreement in the amount of $574,961.26. The funds are restricted to maintenance, construction or reconstruction of city streets and can be spent on materials, labor and equipment necessary for the projects.
Passed a resolution approving and adopting the policy on the Federal Transit Administration Title VI Program. This is a that must be reviewed and submitted every three years in order for Henderson Area Rapid Transit to be eligible for federal funding.

• Authorized a $3,000 lease between Henderson Municipal Power & Light and Allstate Tower for property on Fifth Street.

• Approved a bid for the purchase of road salt from Morton Salt Inc. at $92 per ton.

The next regular meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. June 12 in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center.
