canned food 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/6/18) — The Henderson County Public Library celebrates the start of another school year with its “Food for Fines” program through Aug. 15.

The library is accepting non-perishable, non-expired, unopened food items, which will be donated to the Henderson County School District’s Weekend Backpack program. There is a list of suggested items available at the circulation desk or at the library’s website, hcpl.org.

Library staff asks that patrons consider using this program to reduce or eliminate fines or overdue book fees to help those that are less fortunate in the community.

HCPL reported it will forgive up to $2 in fines or fees per acceptable food item. Non-refundable collection agency fees will not be eligible for the program.
