hend police academy 300HENDERSON, Ky. (8/8/18) — Henderson Police Department will be conducting its Fall 2018 Citizens Academy beginning Aug. 21.

The nine-week course will be held 6-8 p.m. each Tuesday at the station, 1990 Barret Court, Henderson, HPD Public Affairs Officer Jennifer Richmond reported.

Informative, hands-on classes will include a tour of the department and 911 Center, basic patrol operations, mock traffic stops, crime scene processing/fingerprinting, investigations techniques, specialized units demonstrations, firearms safety, virtual training on a firearms training simulator and a tour of the Henderson County Jail. There will also be a Saturday field trip to the firing range. A graduation dinner and discussion will be held on the final night.

Approved participants must be at least 18 years old, with no felony or domestic violence convictions.
