city of henderson2017HENDERSON, Ky. (8/15/18) — The city of Henderson Board of Commissioners approved the first reading of an ordinance that changes the zoning regulations on self-storage units at the regular meeting held Tuesday.

If approved, self-storage facilities would now be allowed in neighborhood business districts and highway commercial districts under certain conditions that would have to be approved by the board of zoning adjustment and the Henderson City-County Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission approved the concept at its Aug. 7 meeting.

In other business, the board of commissioners:

• Amended on first reading the Henderson Water Utility’s budget and appropriation ordinance and amended the job classification and pay plan. Both items related to staffing changes made at the water utility.

• Amended on first reading an ordinance updating the regulations on above-ground pools and spas to align with Kentucky building code.

• Amended on first reading the employee manual in categories including personnel, emergency/bereavement leave, disciplinary guide and drug and alcohol policy.

• Authorized City Manager Buzzy Newman to sign HOME and CDBG documents on behalf of the city.

• Approved a memorandum of understanding with Henderson Municipal Power and Light regarding the expansion of electrical service to the Industrial Park on the Borax Drive property.

• Dissolved an old lease and approved a new lease with The Gathering Place Senior Citizens Center for $1 per year to last 10 years.

• Accepted an agreement with the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet to install attraction “brown signs” denoting Historic Downtown and Henderson River Walk at the Zion Road exit, eventually on I-69.

• Authorized the purchase of a pick-up truck for the Gas Department from Town & Country Ford.

• Heard a presentation from Assistant Fire Chief Jeremy Baxter about the Stop the Bleed Campaign and recognition of Maree Collins on obtaining her Certified City Clerk designation.

The next regular meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Aug. 28 in the third-floor assembly room at the Henderson Municipal Center.
