Hend SO BadgeHENDERSON, Ky. (9/13/18) — Henderson County Sheriff’s Office received a call from a resident in the 5000 block of Highway 41-A about a man on a motorcycle Wednesday that had a broken key in the ignition and appeared to be hot wired.

According to a news release, a deputy identified the man as Herschel Scott Hinton, 29 of Henderson. Hinton stated the motorcycle belonged to his father, who had broken off the key the previous night. As the deputy began running the license plate, Hinton took off running into the woods.

Officials said, with the help of local residents, Hinton was spotted walking behind homes and was found at a residence at the intersection of U.S. 41-A and Wilson Station Road. Hinton led deputies on another foot chase, but was quickly detained.

The motorcycle was listed as stolen sometime overnight from Chapelwoods Apartments in Henderson, and the owner was notified. Residents in the area also told officials that Hinton had been seen entering an unoccupied camper. The camper's owner was contacted as well, HCSO reported.

While deputies attempted to transport Hinton to Henderson County Jail, he attempted to escape custody by kicking out the rear passenger-side window, according to the report. Hinton caused several hundred dollars in damage to the rear interior of the sheriff's office cruiser.

He was charged with receiving stolen property, second-degree fleeing police, second-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree burglary, third-degree escape, resisting arrest, second-degree criminal mischief and possession of drug paraphernalia.
