HENDERSON, Ky. (9/19/18) — One man is dead after a resident returned fire during a home invasion in Henderson overnight.

Henderson Police Department is still investigating the midnight incident. The coroner is working to identify the man the resident returned fire upon inside his home at a Wood Drive Apartment.

According to an HPD press release, Zachary Pearson, the resident, was found with multiple gunshot wounds as officers arrived. An unidentified man was lying on the floor and had no pulse. Henderson County Coroner Bruce Farmer pronounced the intruder deceased at Methodist Hospital.

“Pearson stated that he heard something at his front door and opened the door thinking it was his pizza being delivered,” HPD Officer Jennifer Richmond wrote. “After opening the door, a group of four to five men stormed into the home. One of the men shot Pearson. Pearson ran down the hall and grabbed a gun returning fire. Pearson was shot again, but he shot the intruder multiple times.”

Police stated evidence at the scene supports Pearson’s testimony. No one else was home at the time of the shooting and bullets fired inside the home did not hit walls nor put neighbors at risk.

Pearson was reported to be conscious and alert at the scene. Henderson Fire Department and EMS responded just after midnight along with HPD.

Police did not release information on the survivor’s condition or reveal a medical facility where he was taken for treatment of gunshot wounds.

HPD asks that anyone with information to call Detective Troutman at (270) 831-1111.
