Tree 1HENDERSON, Ky. (1/8/19) — It appeared as though a guardian angel was watching over a Henderson County woman today.

The driver walked away with only minor injuries after a tree fell on her vehicle while traveling along the highway.

According to the Henderson Sheriff’s Office, Cheryl R. Stone, 59 of Corydon, was in her 2017 Dodge Journey going westbound on U.S. 60 West near A.B. Chandler Elementary School just before 1 p.m., when a large, dead tree uprooted, possibly due to gusty winds.

It fell across the road blocking both lanes after landing on top of Stone’s vehicle, but she was traveling fast enough to not get caught beneath it, authorities reported.

Deputies said the driver was able to stop the vehicle approximately 20 feet from where the tree fell.

A tree limb pierced the driver’s side windshield without making contact with Stone. She was taken via Henderson EMS to Methodist Hospital ER for treatment of shoulder and back pain.

Corydon Fire Department, Henderson City-County Rescue Squad also assisted at the scene.
