HAAAHENDERSON, Ky. (3/11/19) — Henderson Area Arts Alliance is planning for the children's summer musical Beauty and The Beast, presented by Compass Creative Dramatics, who will train and teach students in this one week immersive summer drama experience, organizers announced.

Auditions will be held on Monday, June 24 at Preston Arts Center for students who have pre-registered. Rehearsals will follow each day that week 9 a.m.-12:15 p.m. The final performance will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 29 at the Preston Arts Center.

This year's auditions open for students who pre-register, HAAA Director Alex Caudill said. Parents are encouraged to register early, because there are only a limited number of spots available. Students entering second grade up to newly graduated 12th-graders are invited to audition. To pre-register, email Caudill at This email address is being protected from spambots. Show Synopsis:
As their beloved books disappear off the shelves, Beauty and her team of local librarians embark on a quest to rescue them from the city sewers. There, they find the Beast and his henchmen searching desperately to cure the curse that has transformed them all into animals of the lowest degree. Amidst dancing pigeons, ticklish books, and enchanted blue roses, Beauty and the Beast learn that it's only by working together that they can save the day.

The Librarians
Dedicated to the care of their precious books, the Librarians are determined to save the books after their kidnapping.

The Books
Kidnapped from their cozy shelf at the local library, these books might just hold the secret to reversing the curse -- but how to get them to open up?

The Park Rangers
Concerned about the decline of a specific species of rose (rumored to hold magical properties!), the Park Rangers set out to conserve
this valuable natural resource.

The Rats
Changed from servants to vermin when the curse was cast, the Rats stand firm in the fight to regain their identities by any means possible.

The Pigeons
Formerly the guards of the Beasts' castle, the Pigeons now guard his underground lair -- and also do a mean street shuffle.

The Beast
After his selfish behavior got him cursed (along with his servants!), the former-prince-now-unidentifiable-beast ran away to the sewers to live in hiding. With the curse's deadline looming, the Beast reluctantly enlists the Librarians and Park Rangers to assist him in his race against time.

Educators play Scruffy the Rat and Major Oak the Park Ranger.

Each season HAAA works to offer a vast array of arts educational outreach opportunities to school age children. We strive, with the help of our donors and sponsors, to support local schools, and expose our children and youth to the visual and performing arts.
