UPDATE: HENDERSON, Ky. (4/11/19) — Just after 7 this morning, deputies and emergency crews were called to the scene of an acciddent involving an American Medical Response ambulance off I-69 near mile-marker 146.

The driver, Edward Hauenstein, 61 of Newburgh, Indiana, stated he and his partner, Julie Rizen, 41 also of Newburgh, Indiana, were returning from a patient transfer to Vanderbilt Hospital in Nashville, Tennessee, according to a Henderson County Sheriff's Office report.

On the way back, Hauenstein told HCSO he dozed off approximately 4 miles south of Henderson, and lost control of the vehicle. The ambulance went into the median, traveled approximately 190 feet before coming back onto the road, crossing both northbound lanes. It struck a guardrail and went over it before the amublance came to a stop.

Both were taken to St. Vincent's Hospital to be treated for minor injuries. One lane was closed near the scene as crews worked to retrieve the wreckage.

Responding agencies were Henderson Fire Department, Henderson City-County EMS, Robard's Fire Department and Henderson Rescue Squad.

HENDERSON, Ky. (4/11/19) — Traffic was down to one lane 7:14 a.m. northbound along I-69 at mile-marker 146 due to crash involving an ambulance.

It is believed two paramedics were on board the ambulance, when it traveled over the guardrail off the interstate this morning. Both are being taken to St. Vincent’s Hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

Officials said it appears the driver dozed off around mile-marker 144.5. Robards and Henderson Fire departments, Henderson EMS and Henderson County Sheriff’s Office deputies responded.
