Lucas JUPDATE: HENDERSON, Ky. (5/14/19) — A 38-year-old homeless man faces arson charges in connection to two fires that broke out Monday.

Henderson Police Department reported officers and members of Henderson Fire Department began investigating the fires that were 100 yards apart. The first fire occurred around 3 p.m. at a home off Julia Street followed by another at a mobile home off Washington Street.

While crews were fighting the fires, HFD members noticed a man enter and exit both homes, identified as Jeffery A. Lucas of Henderson.

Lucas told HPD detectives that he “started both fires,” HPD wrote.

Lucas was charged Monday with two counts of second-degree arson. He was listed as being held in Henderson County Jail today on $2,000 cash bond.

It is unknown if the fires that broke around the 3 p.m. hour at a vacant home at the corner of Julia and Washington streets followed by a mobile home fire about an hour later off Washington were related.

A possible arsonist is believed to be in custody for questioning. HFD assisted Henderson Police Department officers in locating an unidentified man in the vicinity.

A witness said a firefighter chased an individual down and tackled him.
