Henderson Seal 01 300HENDERSON, Ky. (7/9/19) — The city of Henderson Board of Commissioners met with a light agenda during a regular meeting held today.

The commission finalized second reading to an ordinance that defines a special event involving alcohol sales can take place. The revision expands the area, from Audubon Mill Park and Water Street adjacent to the park and The Bridges Golf Course, only to include several blocks in the Central Business District.

In other business, the board:

• Finalized an amendment to the compensation rate for members of the Civil Service Commission from $300 per year (which it has been since 1946) to $50 for the day when proctoring civil service exams and $50 for the day when attending civil service hearings. The amendment is intended to bring compensation in line with that received by other boards.

• Postponed the second reading of an ordinance that would shift the 911 fee from “land line” phones to a service fee on water meters because of a detail concerning wholesale customers that was overlooked and needs to be addressed.

• Authorized the sale of surplus property owned by Henderson Water Utility on Alvasia Street to Rodger Brown for $12,000. The sale of the two vacant lots is intended to expand the tract for the $1.46 million project that will develop six single family dwellings along Second Street in the Gateway District.

The commission also heard a presentation led by Ohio Valley Art League Director Jordyn Myracle about that planned crosswalk public art project on Second Street that will be funded through a grant and planned for this fall

In addition, a proclamation designated July as Parks and Recreation Month. Mayor Steve Austin reappointed Ron Burkins and Tim Skinner to a three-year term on the Code Enforcement Board.

The next regular meeting is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 23, in the third-floor Assembly Room at the Henderson Municipal Center.
