Chase 7 11

HENDERSON, Ky. (7/11/19) — Henderson Police Department reported today an adult and a juvenile face charges following a pursuit. HPD responded to a call after receiving information on an “attempt to locate” a vehicle from Hopkins County involved in an alleged robbery.

According to an HPD news release, officers were told to be on the lookout for a silver Mercury Grand Marquise heading north on I-69 Friday. A caller spoke to dispatch saying they were behind the vehicle. City officers spotted the Marquise at Madison and U.S. 41-S.

Police said the driver refused to stop, took two exits and drove into the old K-Mart parking lot off Gardenmile Road.

The passenger got out of the vehicle and fled on foot with a "loaded AR-15 rifle" and also dropped a .40 caliber handgun, according to the report. The passenger disobeyed police commands to stop, leading officers on a brief foot pursuit. He was quickly taken into custody. After dropping the passenger, the driver of the vehicle continued to flee and stopped at his mother's house off Atkinson Street, where he was taken into custody.

The driver was identified as Tommy Mcelveen, 31 of Henderson. The unnamed passenger was listed as a 17-year-old juvenile.

The youth was charged with second-degree fleeing or evading police and minor in possession of a handgun.

Mcelveen was charged with first-degree fleeing police.
