US60SpottsvilleBridgeHENDERSON COUNTY, Ky. (7/12/19) — A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to have inspectors on the U.S. 60 Green River Bridge at Spottsville Monday.

An inspection team will be climbing on the bridge structure to outline some bridge maintenance items that will require attention during construction of a new bridge at the site, state highway officials reported. Some brief lane restrictions may be required to allow climbers to access the bridge structure and drop off equipment required to facilitate their work.

Most of the inspection work will be along the bridge truss below the deck and out of view of passing traffic. KYTC Spokesman Keith Todd asks drivers be aware that climbers and support vehicles may be on the bridge deck from time to time during the day. The inspection team plans to be on the bridge from about 7:30 a.m. to about mid-afternoon Monday.

At this time, a contract for construction of a new bridge immediately downstream from the existing structure is expected to be ready for bidding sometime this fall, Todd said. Construction of a new bridge is expected to take about two years to complete.

U.S. 60 is closed near the 6 mile-marker in Daviess County, between Stanley and Owensboro. While there is a marked detour for the closed section, through-traffic between Owensboro and Henderson should self-detour via the Audubon Parkway.
