FIREWORKS RIVERHENDERSON, Ky. (9/10/19) — Henderson Board of Commissioners made some changes to its fireworks ordinance tonight.

After an Aug. 13 ordinance review, a change was requested by commission members to expand the distance for the use of fireworks to 400 feet away from an animal shelter, nursing home or hospital.

Other changes in the ordinance involve restrictions on structures at fireworks retailers and the prohibition of the sale or use of sky lanterns. The latter was recommended by Henderson Fire Department due to the nature of how they function with an open flame. The lanterns have been considered a fire hazard and banned in several states.

In other business, the board:

• Heard the annual report from Kyndle about their economic development operations.

• Passed first reading of an ordinance creating a shift pay differential incentive for police officers.

• Passed a municipal order updating the policy for investment and financial management to reflect changes in state law and approved a contract that allows participation in the Kentucky League of Cities Investment Pool Plus.

• Heard reports on a development plan that includes residential housing at 1213 Barret Blvd. and zoning information from the Henderson City-County Planning Commission on solar energy.

The regular meeting scheduled Tuesday, Sept. 24, has been canceled because of training and participation in the Kentucky League of Cities annual conference. The next meeting is scheduled 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 8, in the third-floor assembly room at Henderson Municipal Center.
