Henderson Event 300HENDERSON, Ky. (1/14/20) — Twenty-five emerging community leaders will graduate from the 11th class of the Henderson Leadership Initiative Thursday during a commencement ceremony.

The ceremony begins 5:30 p.m. at Preston Arts Center on the Henderson Community College campus. Hors d’oeuvres will be served afterward.

Members of the public, current HLI Fellows and community leaders are encouraged to attend the ceremony, HLI Director Chuck Stinnett reported. Seating will be in the Preston Arts Center auditorium.

In addition to the commencement ceremony, members of the class will announce five community improvement initiatives they will be pursuing. The brainstorming of community projects has been a hallmark of HLI since the program launched in 2007, Stinnett explained. The projects are intended to benefit Henderson as well as provide practical experience in community leadership to the participants.

HLI was formed in 2007 by five community leaders seeking to prepare a new generation of leaders for Henderson County. They included Scott Davis, Joel Hopper, Ron Jenkins, Herb McKee and Dale Sights. Davis, Hopper and McKee continue to serve on the HLI Board of directors along with Judge/Executive Brad Schneider and Dawn Kelsey.

HLI refers to its class graduates as Fellows. Members of the Class of 2019 include Allison Hancock, Christa Gibson, Courtney Givens, Courtney Woolfork, Darrin Phegley, Duncan Taylor, Emmily Patterson, Ericka Odom, Jessica Sheffer, Joe McGarrh, John Mays, Jonathan Dixon, Jordan Pyles, Katy Groves Mussat, Kelsey Hargis, Leslye Krampe, Lindsay Locasto, Mackenzie Utley, Meredith Stone, Missy Vanderpool, Monica Fella, Nathan Bishop, Quinn Thomas, Sloane Hayhurst and Wes Alexander.

“With this upcoming graduation, HLI will have prepared more than 200 Fellows for community leadership, and providing leadership is exactly what they are doing,” Scott Davis, who chairs the HLI Board, said. “HLI Fellows are guiding nonprofit organizations in both staff and board positions, leading local companies, serving in public office and making Henderson a greater place. They are doing exactly what we hoped they would do when we founded HLI.”
