surfky weather ice tree WESTERN Ky. (1/9/18) — The National Weather Service in Paducah has its eye on winter precipitation that could affect travel in the western Kentucky area beginning Thursday night.

Forecasters reported “uncertainty” pertaining to the track of the low pressure system that is possibly shaping up to be the area’s first winter storm.

NWS says they expect a gradual change from rain to freezing rain, sleet and snow Thursday night and into Friday in the region, with longer periods of snow and sleet possible through southeast Missouri and southern Illinois.

Weather experts are not ruling out significant rain or freezing rain in southwest Indiana and western Kentucky, adding there is much “uncertainty” of the track or how much or what type of precipitation will fall leading into the weekend.
