MADISONVILLE, Ky. (5/20/17) — The Youth Athletics Association sports field along Laffoon Trail in Madisonville, host to thousands of people over the years, finally received its first major makeover in decades.

City officials gathered at the YAA Baseball and Softball Complex Friday morning for a ribbon cutting ceremony to celebrate the opening of the new concession stand and restroom area that will serve many youth and visitors for years to come.

The city’s Madisonville Forward project was launched with some of the tourism/restaurant tax funds collected since the ordinance was implemented by the city last year.

Madisonville Mayor David Jackson said the upgrades to the complex including additional construction for parking areas cost a half-million dollars.

“We’re so excited to dedicate this facility today,” the mayor said. “The YAA ball field for baseball, softball and soccer has touched so many lives for kids growing up in Madisonville.”

Jackson said the city hopes to continue work on the sports venue.

“The county has expressed an interest in joining with us in some improvements for the ball fields,” he said. “I just think it’s a great beginning for things at the YAA.”
