all am 05 copyHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (11/13/17) — Two Madisonville North Hopkins High School Maroon Magic Dance Team members will make their appearance in the 98th Annual Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Taylor Hunter and Olivia Devine were selected along with more than 500 junior high and high school cheerleaders and dancers from across the U.S. to perform in the 98th Annual parade — the oldest Thanksgiving Day parade in the nation, Michelle Edwards of Varsity Special Events announced in a press release.

The individuals invited to perform in the parade are cheerleading and dance All-Americans selected from Varsity Spirit camps around the country, including camps organized by Universal Cheerleaders Association, Universal Dance Association, National Cheerleaders Association and National Dance Alliance.

All-Americans will perform alongside massive floats and giant balloons, as well as favorites from the entertainment world as the 2017 Dunkin’ Donuts Thanksgiving Day Parade makes its way through the heart of historic Philadelphia. The event is televised in the Philadelphia area and syndicated throughout the U.S.

Hunter and Devine earned their All-American titles via tryout based on superior dance skills. Only the top 10 percent of the dancers who attend Varsity Spirit camps in the summer receive this honor and the chance to march in this prestigious holiday parade, Edwards said. The All-American group will be in Philadelphia Nov. 21-24, practicing their routine and visiting Philadelphia landmarks.

"I never thought after I got nominated that I would actually make All-American, but when they called my name I was shocked," Hunter said, when she made All-American at camp in June.

Hunter, 15,  is a sophomore and is co-captain of Maroon Magic Dance Team. Devine, 14, is a freshman and is also a member of Maroon Magic Dance Team.

"My goal was to make All-American my Senior year. I can't believe I made it my Freshman year," Devine said after making All-American at the camp.

The Varsity Spirit All-American program is celebrating its 31st year. For more information, visit www.varsity.com.
