accident with injuries ambulanceHOPKINS COUNTY, Ky. (12/6/17) — A woman was injured after attempting to miss a deer on the road. Her vehicle struck a utility pole in the area of Jewel City Road Monday night.

Hopkins County Sheriff’s Office Deputy Mike Evans responded to the single-vehicle incident at 9:30 p.m., where driver Shannon L. Paul, 38, indicated she was driving east when she swerved off the right side of the road to miss the animal, according to the report.

Live power lines fell onto her 1999 Dodge Durango, which briefly caught fire. Paul was able to get out the passenger side.

She was taken by Medical Center Ambulance to St. Mary’s Hospital in Evansville, Indiana for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries, HCSO reported.

Hanson Volunteer Fire Department and Kenergy assisted at the scene.
